The True Protectors
There's a special group of people out there, tonight, the end of carnival and the end of the Mardi Gras festivities as they wrap up in one huge orgy on Bourbon Street.
They aren't the police. The NOPD used to be bad, but now are one of the most clumsy, awful, useless group of individuals masquerading as "protectors of the citizenry". They have now, after this year, reached a new low, even below the Louisiana State Police. It's a close race, but NOPD wins this year.
Because they couldn't even catch a bunch of thugs walking the parade routes shooting people. How can you miss a gang of teenagers in baggy clothing NOT watching the parade? That is the first clue....ok, I have to stop, these morons really get under my skin.
Anyway, the true guys and girls out there looking out for you are the medics that staff the NOHD. The City of New Orleans' Emergency Medical System boasts some of the finest medics and care in any U.S. metropolis. They are by far the best. And tonight I know many of my brothers and sisters out there are at the end of a very long night shift, having worked 14 and 16 and possibly longer hour shifts on the streets, on the parade routes.
Between the drunks and tourists, coupled with the trauma usually inflicted by NOPD "help", the calls never stop. I know right now those EMT's are dragging, looking for a cup of coffee to revitalize, make it to that 3am mark, hoping that dispatch finds a way to get them off on time before the next overturned car, drunk that fell of the Cat's Meow stage, or NOPD arrest of an unarmed, barely clothed 19 year old from Flint, Michigan with multiple cuts around his eyes and head due to the trendy "arrest method" of the useless NOPD.
It's almost over, guys, and I hope you make it out unscathed and healthy. And whoever is working the foot patrol at Bourbon and St. Ann, I feel your pain.
Good luck guys. bb
