Politics Hits La Hard

It is only a matter of time. The Feds are lining it up, and being smart. Soon Marc Morial will be facing indictments, charges, fines, and everything else associated with his criminal organization that basically raped the city coffers for 8 years.

I remember working for Southern Parking in New Orleans back in the mid 90's. And I rememember all the deals and cash exchanges between "part-time employees" and other nefarious individuals. And in the height of the gambling craze, when the state awarded the land contract to one man and the gambling rights to another, I was right there on Iberville Street watching as Hemmeter and company gave the slip to the press by using decoy cars they had staged in the parking lot.

It was high excitement, and to be honest I pocketed a bit of cash by parking cars all around the city for these guys. Plus me and my friend Johnny ran interference with the news vans on the day of reckoning.

But Oliver Thomas, well, what can you say? Surprised? Hardly. This year alone we have watched a steady stream of local, parish, and state elected representatives and appointed individuals trip over their own feet in the muck of politics.

This is the true cleaning of the city that Katrina brings. And I welcome it. Every single member of the old school board should be barred from ever entering the state again. They were incompetent fools that stole from the funds that help children, and most of them should not be allowed to air their useless tirades in the open where intelligent people can hear.

Eddie Jordan? Really, if you are ever involved in a crime of any sort be sure to commit it in Orleans Parish. This fool couldn't convict you with the bloody gun in your hand.

Charles Foti? Picking on citizens left and right, trying to make a name for himself at the expense of others, with ridiculously outrageous charges and accusations. He's running the state office like he ran his jail. And as a medic I picked up a lot of inmates who had "fallen" five or six times to produce the blunt trauma marks all around their heads.

David Vitter? Another windbag full of venom and guilty of the crimes he wishes to apply to all the other "immorals" of the world.

Ugly ugly. This is the debris left over from the storm, the real debris that will be harder to scrape away and bury than any house or building left behind by the flood waters. The nation is looking on and realizing that rebuilding New Orleans may not be a good idea, not because the city is unworthy, but the leaders elected by the citizens are making our state out to be unworthy.

And I, for one, could not blame any other citizen of the United States to question why we are constantly lining the pockets of corrupt politicians from the south with "aid" money.

If we don't get our act together we are at the mercy of these fools.
